As a tortilla machine for tortillerias and taquerias, the GD-YM series forms corn masa, flour dough and flatbread doughs from 5 cm to 32 cm with one included mold and optional custom molds.

The Difference Between This Machine and a Manual Press

If you are used to a hand tortilla press or a manual tortilla machine, the first thing you notice on the GD-YM is that it does not need one person per tortilla. You place dough into the machine, and the rollers press and form it to a uniform thickness, then deliver the finished tortilla on the conveyor. One operator feeds dough; the machine does the pressing.

What stays consistent: every tortilla that comes off the rollers has the same thickness. With a manual tortilla press or a manual corn tortilla machine, thickness varies from tortilla to tortilla and from shift to shift. With a roller-type machine, the gap between the rollers is fixed by the adjustment knobs — so a run of 500 tortillas looks identical to a run of 5,000.

What changes: output. A manual tortilla maker produces maybe 60–100 tortillas per hour per person, and even a powered tortilla press machine stops between cycles while the operator loads and unloads it. The GD-YM presses continuously: the GD-YM1 produces 1,000–1,500 per hour; the GD-YM3 reaches 5,000 per hour with the right mold. That is the difference between selling out at lunch and being able to supply a wholesale route.

For many owners, this is the step up from a Mexican tortilla press worked by hand to a machine that runs all day — and for buyers comparing electric tortilla makers, the GD-YM is the one built for continuous commercial duty rather than countertop use.

Which model for which volume:

  • GD-YM1 — small tortilleria, restaurant, food truck. 5–20 cm tortillas, 1,000–1,500 pcs/hr. Compact 680 mm footprint.
  • GD-YM2 — medium production. 5–22 cm tortillas, up to 2,000 pcs/hr.
  • GD-YM3 — high-volume shop or small factory. 5–32 cm tortillas, up to 5,000 pcs/hr with a small mold, larger molds for burrito-size tortillas.

Build — What You Are Actually Buying

Stainless steel body. The machine frame and surfaces are stainless steel — rust-resistant and easy to keep clean in a food environment. Tortilla production is wet work: masa, flour dust, water. Mild steel will corrode within months in that environment; stainless will not.

Brass forming rollers. The rollers that press the dough are brass — the traditional material for tortilla forming. Brass gives the dough a clean release and holds its surface over long production runs.

Pure copper motor. The drive motor is wound with pure copper. Copper motors run cooler and last longer than aluminum-wound motors under continuous load. For a tortilla press machine running for hours at a stretch, this is the difference between years of service and an early failure — the heavy-duty choice for daily production.

Adjustable thickness, 1.5–5 mm. Turn the adjustment knobs to set the roller gap. Thin for taco shells, thicker for table tortillas or burrito tortillas — same machine, different setting.

Conveyor discharge. Formed tortillas exit on the conveyor, ready for the next step — stacking, or direct transfer to a tortilla oven or griddle.

Molds — One Machine, Many Tortilla Sizes

Each machine ships with one mold, sized to your order. To change tortilla diameter, you swap the roller mold — a few minutes’ work, no special tools.

Standard mold range: 5 cm to 32 cm diameter (per GD-YM model).

Custom mold sizes: molds outside the standard range, up to 45 cm, can be made to order.

Custom mold shapes: round is standard, but square, rectangular and heart-shaped molds are available. This is how the same machine produces square tortillas for a specific sandwich concept, or a specialty shape for a retail line.

Mold pricing: additional molds are quoted separately. Most customers order two or three mold sizes up front — for example 15 cm for table tortillas and 10 cm for tacos — and add more later as the menu grows.

Corn, Flour, and More — What Dough It Handles

The GD-YM forms tortillas from prepared dough:

  • Corn masa — for traditional corn tortillas, including the masa used for tacos and tostadas.
  • Wheat flour dough — for flour tortillas, including burrito-size and wrap-style tortillas.
  • Flatbread doughs — roti, chapati and similar soft flatbread doughs can be formed on the machine by selecting the appropriate mold and thickness setting.

The machine does not mix or cook — it forms. Dough comes from your mixer (R&M also supplies commercial dough mixers), and cooking happens on your griddle, comal, or a tortilla oven such as R&M’s electric tortilla tunnel oven. For more on tortilla production, see the independent article on tortillas.

Daily Operation

  1. Prepare dough in your mixer to the consistency your recipe requires.
  2. Set thickness with the adjustment knobs (1.5–5 mm).
  3. Feed dough into the forming section; the rollers press it to uniform thickness.
  4. Collect tortillas from the conveyor; cook on griddle or transfer to the oven.

Cleaning: wipe the rollers and body after each production run. Stainless surfaces clean quickly; the brass rollers wipe down without sticking.

Power: 220V/50Hz single phase. Check the model table for machine size and weight so you can plan installation and door clearance. A tortilla machine earns its place when dough preparation, thickness setting and cleaning stay repeatable across shifts.

Applications

  • Taquerias and Mexican restaurants — fresh corn tortillas in-house instead of buying daily from a distributor.
  • Tortillerias — the core production machine, with output matched to shop size.
  • Food trucks — compact GD-YM1 fits the limited counter space of a truck kitchen.
  • Burrito and wrap concepts — flour tortillas up to burrito size on the GD-YM3.
  • Flatbread bakeries — roti and chapati forming for restaurant supply or retail.

For a tortilla machine in a taqueria or tortilleria, match the model to the shop output and available counter space.

الأسئلة المتكررة

How many tortillas per hour can this machine make?

1,000–1,500 pcs/hr (GD-YM1), 1,000–2,000 pcs/hr (GD-YM2), or 1,500–5,000 pcs/hr (GD-YM3), depending on model and mold size. Smaller tortillas produce faster than large ones.

Can it make both corn and flour tortillas?

Yes. The machine forms dough — corn masa and wheat flour dough both work. Use the appropriate mold and adjust thickness as needed.

What tortilla sizes can it make?

5–20 cm (GD-YM1), 5–22 cm (GD-YM2), 5–32 cm (GD-YM3). One mold = one size; change the mold to change the diameter. Custom molds up to 45 cm and custom shapes are available on request.

Can I adjust the thickness?

Yes. Thickness is adjustable from 1.5 mm to 5 mm using the roller adjustment knobs.

Is it electric?

Yes — 220V/50Hz single phase. Power consumption is 250 W (GD-YM1, GD-YM2) or 400 W (GD-YM3). Contact us if your site uses a different voltage.

Does it cook the tortillas?

No. It forms the tortillas. Cooking is done on a griddle/comal or in an oven — R&M offers an electric tortilla tunnel oven that matches this machine for a forming-to-baking line.

How many molds come with the machine?

One mold, sized to your order. Additional molds are priced on request.

What is the price and shipping time?

Prices depend on model, mold sizes, quantity and destination. Contact us with your requirements — we will confirm within one business day.
