Yasawa Princess Maldives

Ocean-Going Yacht & Private Island Outdoor Furniture Engineering Case Study

Malé, Maldives | 65-Day Full Delivery

1. Project Overview

Project Type: Ocean-going luxury cruise yacht and private island resort Project Scale: 51-meter ocean-going yacht (28 luxury cabins, 4 decks), with complementary private island beach leisure area Operation Intensity: Year-round atoll-hopping cruise itinerary, high-frequency operation; annual equatorial intense sunlight > 2,700 hours Geographic Environment: Indian Ocean equatorial open waters — persistent high salt-spray corrosion, among the world’s highest UV radiation indices, seasonal strong monsoons, and tropical high-humidity conditions Owner Core Requirements: Under the dual extreme variables of “ocean-going high salt spray” and “equatorial-grade high UV,” deliver an integrated outdoor furniture solution combining best-in-class corrosion resistance, lightweight ballast profile, and minimal crew maintenance burden.

2. Engineering & Operational Challenges

2.1 Persistent Salt-Spray Corrosion

The yacht navigates open ocean waters where high-concentration salt spray exerts round-the-clock aggressive corrosion pressure on metal frames, woven materials, and textile fabrics alike. The paramount material selection principle: under sustained salt-spray exposure, material degradation curves must be driven to their absolute minimum.

2.2 Equatorial-Grade UV Degradation

The Maldives’ near-equatorial position brings some of the highest UV indices on earth. Standard outdoor materials in this environment have a service life merely one-third that of temperate climates. UV stabilization performance of fabrics and woven materials is a hard-entry threshold for the project.

2.3 Marine Environment Cleaning Efficiency

With extremely high-frequency wave splash, all deck furniture faces persistent contamination from seawater, sunscreen residue, and food debris. Material selection must be driven by “rapid wipe-down cleanability, zero absorption, zero penetration” — to maximize reduction of the crew’s daily maintenance burden.

3. Customized Engineering Solutions

3.1 Structural Material Selection: All-Aluminum Full-Process Treatment vs. Marine-Grade Stainless Steel

Ballast Trade-Off: Marine-grade stainless steel (316 SS) is 2.5–3× heavier than aluminum alloy. For a 51-meter yacht, excessive deck load would seriously compromise vessel center-of-gravity stability and substantially increase fuel consumption.
Enan Solution: We deployed 6063-T5 industrial-grade aluminum alloy (2.0 mm heavy-gauge wall thickness), combined with chrome-free pre-treatment and electrostatic powder curing coating. This process standard has passed third-party ASTM B117 / ISO 9227 1,000-hour aggressive salt-spray testing (test report available upon request), achieving a precise equilibrium between vessel ballast management and best-in-class corrosion protection.

3.2 Weave Material Selection: PE Wicker vs. Rope Weave

In an ocean-going high-salt-spray environment, traditional rope weave readily absorbs salt-laden moisture, leading to internal mold growth, swelling and loosening, and demanding significant freshwater consumption for rinsing. PE Wicker Advantages: Its polymer molecular structure is entirely non-absorbent, completely blocking salt-spray ingress. Integrated high-molecular-weight UV stabilizers maintain flexibility and stiffness under equatorial intense sunlight. The smooth, gap-free surface allows seawater splash and dust to rinse clean in a single pass — a decisive all-around win.

3.3 Tabletop Material Selection: Glass Panel

We disqualified natural solid wood — prone to cracking and mold under high salt and humidity — and stone — excessively heavy and susceptible to acid-alkali erosion. We specified high-strength tempered glass tabletops: sunscreen residue, seawater, and food debris wipe clean in a single pass, achieving zero staining and zero penetration.

3.4 Sun Deck Furnishings: Ecosystem Supply Chain Integration & Quality Control

For the sun deck’s simple lounger requirements, we leveraged not only our core manufacturing expertise but also our role as a one-stop integrated solution provider, conducting rigorous marine-grade ecosystem supply chain screening. All ancillary items underwent our in-house rigorous salt-spray resistance and structural inspection before dispatch, ensuring uniform quality standards across all onboard assets.
